cloudstickhorses

before i created the 'red horse' image i had this blue one to create.  the initial request was for the red one but the process required this blue one.  it seems fitting given that i can say i developed my style or technique through the work i did painting clouds.  i "knew" the horse would "appear" in the clouds...

direction

this is the "red horse" painting.  before i was asked to create this painting i had just gone through a period in which i questioned my "art". the why of it.  i had gone through a process from which i was not certain how to proceed.  then i got the horse request and some real possibility opened up as far as how to proceed making paintings.  these painitings are each about 2 feet by 3 feet, with a black hemp string stitch for the border.  i prefer to paint on unstretched canvas and i was aiming to create "something unique" as an object.  they both have a raw/rustic feel...homemade and something that could be rolled up carried on a horse.

these two images are from the 'cloudstickpeople' series...both later.  this image above is one of my favorites and is about 4.5 feet by 3 feet or so.

this is maybe 2.5 feet by 4 feet...and hangs in our living room...

alchemy and movement

august 6-8, 2010, chicago.

my friend ginger just put together a dance show at a certain space and at the last minute needed some work for a wall, so she asked me. i said yes and on the 6th she came over to see what i had. i laid them out on the back porch and lawn and she picked out her favorite images in the size that could be hanged with small nails.

after she left that friday i right away knew what the center painting would be. i quite like hanging wall installations, wall size collage. the pieces kind of fell into place by themselves...and after hanging, before the show, back at home, i realized the title. it is the title of the installation and for the center piece. i had never thought to do such a show and really quite enjoyed seeing my work with the dancing. all things are movement says a taoist proverb i once read and in this movement happens alchemy.

this set are all from the late 90s. i had shown a few once at an around the coyote festival in wicker park in the early 2000s but have not pursued many shows so most of these still had no public viewing.

thanks ginger, for asking.
